Update: Flooding and Safety

Dear Peralta Community,

The weather forecast yesterday that called for rain and high winds to begin last night (Tuesday, January 3, 2023) is now hitting us as of 6:30pm here in Oakland on Wednesday evening, January 4, 2023.  The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Oakland and other surrounding areas that is effective until 10:45pm tonight, with a Flood Watch through 4pm tomorrow. Additionally, a High Wind Warning is in effect until 10am tomorrow. As a result, we are recommending that employees who can do their jobs remotely continue to work from home on Thursday, January 5th, 2023.

As noted yesterday from Chancellor Jackson:

"Given the current weather conditions I have advised the key leaders to have non-essential staff to work remotely."

Per Alameda County alert system:

Alameda County resources are available at https://www.acgov.org/emergencysite/ and https://www.acgov.org/ready/flood.htm.

National Weather Service information about Oakland and surrounding areas is available here.

We will continue to keep you posted via email announcement and via Safe Peralta at https://safe.peralta.edu regarding additional weather-related updates.

Please stay safe!

All the best,
Mark
